Hi,

There is just so much amazing stuff to read about Frogs. I remembered our science lab.

Really, I was going to tell the kids just few amazing facts or similar and I ended up noting so many more for myself. Don’t believe me? Take a look at a page in my diary. 🙂

I am going to keep this post short but crisp and clear for all those who could use the information herein.

The book:

This week we delve into one more story by an Indian Author. “Little Frog” or “Nanha Mendhak” is a bilingual book by Tulika books. The story is by Ranjitham Paul and is about a little frog who is waiting for Rain.

The book is ideal to teach “Days of the week” with a story and of course the life cycle of a frog.
The pictures by T.R.Rajesh are delightful and make me want to try painting some frogs and fishes of my own.

The fact that this is a bilingual book is an added advantage if you want your children to learn few Hindi words along with the English story. (Also available in other Indian languages.)

Teaching ideas:

Life cycle of a Frog:

There is a printable available on Learncreatelove. I loved it and used it to make up a cute activity for my kids.

(Lorelei and Kimberly, I love your website. It has so many useful printables. Thank you from me.)

I would love it if you moms too take a look at her site.

Here’s how we used the printable. We also printed the chart which has a description of the various stages.

Amazing facts about Frogs:

There are so many facts you could teach the children of different ages. Check my diary page above or for some free videos, check you tube.

Life in a pond:

The book also describes the different animals and birds in a pond. You could go deeper if you wanted to teach on a pond eco-system or animal habitats.

Days of the week:

The story line mentions the days of the week.

Letter F:

Crystalandcomp has some very nice worksheets for alphabet and much more. ( Thank you Crystal for your amazing website. I found it very useful.)

We have used their idea to make a frog with the letter F. We just added the red pipe-cleaner as a tongue. Here’s a picture.

Maths:

There is a free maths Frog hop worksheet available at 123homeschool4me. A wonderful website to visit if you are planning to homeschool your kids. (Thank you Beth for this amazing webpage.)

Craft Ideas

Paper bag Frog:

This is the most common craft and yet one of the awesome crafts available on the theme Frog.

Here’s one from Iheartcraftythings which includes a free template. (Thank you Rachel for this awesome craft.)

Plastic cup frogs:

This is the one we made. Here is a picture.

Games to play

Action games: Jumping like a frog, Pull out your tongue like the frog, Swim like a tadpole.

Frog jump game: It was so much fun. It is available easily in the toy shop. You press the backside of the little plastic frogs and they jump into the blue plastic pond.
