Hello,
We are in control of our destiny but, life does throw up many surprises which we can deal with if we are prepared.
This video says it all so beautifully. The father in the video, a single parent receives some unexpected news but instead of being discouraged he begins planning how he can give his child that security to live his life in happiness.
I lost my dad in 1999 when I was in the final year of engineering. Our cash resources had been drying out for many years now and it was quite evident that it was just mom and me now. There was no active life insurance policy.
Thankfully, I had been selected in a campus interview and was scheduled to join my first job just a few months later. I looked forward to my new job and its challenges. It would also mean a steady monthly income for the two of us.
Seven years later, finally, I found Mr. Right. In seven years, I had never been advised about savings. I was naïve. I had invested some money just for tax purpose in NSC certificates and PPF account. And the only Jewelry I had was a gold set bought from one of my yearly bonus payments.
There were few months in between my engagement and my marriage date. I saved every bit I could in these months prior to the marriage. The marriage was arranged and concluded successfully.
Thanks to last-minute savings, helping hands from friends and family.
It taught me some tough lessons which I would like to share with you.
Lesson 1: There is always scope for saving some money.
Systematically saving even a small amount would bring you relief over the years.
I wish I had been more vigilant about this myself.
Lesson 2: Never forget the kindness people show you, especially in tough times.
The tough times teach you to recognize helping hands and loving hearts.
Lesson 3: Be independent.
Financial independence is the best gift you can give yourself.
Along with that, let your thoughts, actions and emotions also be independent.
Lesson 4: Plan well
Every day the cost of living is rising. With it the daily expenditure is increasing.
The education for your kids and the healthcare for your parents is also reaching new levels. It is important to have life and health insurance.
A lesson learnt well.
Post marriage I kept saving periodically in whatever way I could. I treasure my independence today and have a little nest of savings of my own. They are my safety net for any emergency.
I also invested in a life and health insurance for myself and my immediate family.
I gave up my full-time job to take care of my young child but, the need for financially independent and to put my resources to use still prevailed.
As a result I started blogging. It helped me share my ideas and connect with the world at large. You have been a part of my journey. Thank you.
The little nest of savings offered me the security and the confidence to pursue my dream.
I started my own business. Soon Creative bits will complete one year. It’s just a step forward and I hope to keep walking towards new goals each year.
What about you? Do you have a story too?
Do share your thoughts on how security and planning can help you protect your dreams and those of your loved ones. We always love to hear from you.
