Hi,
This is a simple book. It has minimal words and yet, it tells a story. A story about how the lion cubs spend their day.
As the entire story has simple words, the illustrations play a very important part. Have you ever seen such cute heart-shaped lion cubs?
We just loved the pictures by Ajanta Guhathakurta.
Another aspect which we loved about this book was that it is bilingual. Our book is an English and Marathi version. The translation done by Suvarna Sridhar was so apt.
The starting inside cover pages at the start and end show the animal pictures that the book would introduce us to. The name of the animal or bird is also mentioned in English and Marathi. I think it is because of this book that my daughter knows what a porcupine, a hyena, an eagle and a crocodile is also called in Marathi. She is able to identify with both the English and the Marathi versions of the story.
It would make a lovely bed time read too because the story ends with the lioness asking her cubs to sleep.
I loved a video of my daughter wherein she was reading this book. It prompted me to do a review of this book. I realized that for her then age of three years and three months, she really understood the book very well and also was able to reproduce it. So thank you to the author, the illustrator, the translator and for Tulika publishers. This video is for all of you. It is mostly in Marathi.
This book is very simple and sweet. It would be right for children above two years. It would also make a lovely book for gifting and as a part of your home collection.
Happy reading,
Poornima
