Hi,
We took part in the 2014 Love books Summer Exchange hosted by The Educators’ spin on it.
We had a great time sending our book and activity to Bubbleink and receiving our package from Prajakta & Little Kuhu.
I am going to mention a few points below on why we liked the book “The Great Big Enormous Turnip” and how it helped us and thereafter we are going to let our pictures do the talking.
The expression on my Aruja’s face will say all that needs to be conveyed to Prajakta mavshi. (Aunt in Marathi language)

If we had not been sent this book, I seriously doubt if we would have ever made a crafty turnip. 🙂

We actually learned a lot about the vegetables growing above and below the ground. Which among them we would pluck and which would be the ones to pull out. We even had a family discussion on what is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable and we learned some more. “A vegetable is the edible portion of a plant. Vegetables are usually grouped according to the portion of the plant that is eaten such as leaves (lettuce), stem (celery), roots (carrot), tubers (potato), bulbs (onion) and flowers (broccoli). A fruit is the mature ovary of a plant. So a tomato is botanically a fruit but is commonly considered a vegetable.” Simply put, if it has seeds in it, it is a fruit. Huh! I didn’t know that! Did you?

We loved the way there is a repetition in the book so that it is easier to engage the child in the story. After a few reads, we used to chant together the entire chain of people who pulled the turnip.

Aruja learned few new words like Barrel or wheelbarrow and many more.
The set of activities that we received with our book.
The completed picture.
We found it difficult to punch the felt so we stapled it. 🙂 We made a mamma turnip and a baby turnip.
Everything has to be a mamma & a baby. 🙂
Hey! Have we done it correctly? The above ground and underground vegetables?
The book and the reader.
The happy child.
Overall, we had an enjoyable experience with our new book and activity. Thank you for such lovely efforts Prajakta.
Warm regards,
Poornima
