Hello there,
For generations, we all have had a dream. To have a home of our own.
A place where our nomadic heart would feel “at home”.
We had this moment four years ago. There was that frenzy in our hearts.
The house had to be just the way we wanted. Of course, “One” of the two partners will mostly have his or her way. For us it was his way 🙁
Here are some photos of our two bedroom apartment.
The house looks clean and spacious but, empty. And it was.
🙂 and 🙁
We weren’t parents then and believe me, there is a huge difference in your outlook, your requirements and your life.
These are some of the changes and you may see same things placed differently each time. It’s need based 🙂 Need for fun.
Here are some points of difference for those new parents to be.
Before we were parents and after we were parents:
Before: We had been in a rental 1BHK earlier. The second bedroom was an EXTRA one.
After: What second bedroom? Why didn’t we buy a 3 bedroom flat. Anyway, the loan payments are going to go on till eternity!
Before: Our second bedroom, proclaimed as a guest room was EMPTY. Only the beds on the floor and no furniture except, for the wardrobe and a work table.
After: I believe in just a few years we will be told that, “This is MY room.” and thereby ends the guest room funda!
Before: The wardrobes were empty. There seemed to be ample storage space. How much space will a child take up?
After: All the space in your house, as in your heart and in your life is taken up. Your new mantra will be, storage! storage and more storage!
Before: We need to have storage space for the future.
After: We NEED to have SPACE.
Before: Balcony was a space.
After: Balcony is an area where, “Store (and I was going to write, dump!) here, all of that which, has no specific place of it’s own”.
Before: The lighter shades of paint go well with our personalities. Mostly shades of white. They make the space look bigger and cleaner.
After: The child has brought so much color in our lives, we have to get some vibrance into our home too. Of course, the child helps you do that too, literally. And white? Tauba! They make the messes seen more clearly.
We have to get the house repainted and start finding some more storage solutions. It is due now as our little miss is all of three now and has her own choices. Some would say, “Drop the excess baggage” and yes, that is one way. It is important to declutter once in a while. Ahem! let’s talk about only the paint for now 😉
It was Asian paints for us four years back and it will be so, even this time around. Earlier we had visited Asian Paints colour spectra and we had chosen the following colors: Solitare 8500, Tropics – 8513, Spring folic -7787, Jungle cane -7793
I just visited Asian paints home solution website and checked this. Some of the points they mentioned are as follows :
Hassle-free Service Experience
Expert Advise
Experts at work
Superior Finish
Seal of Assurance
Mechanized Painting tools
I know, It sounds like a dream come true.
I can be sure only when I try it and try it, I will.
Now, only the incy wincy point remains to convince my husband 🙂
Who can help??
Love,
Poornima
Hey Poornima,
I felt like someone was reading out my story to me. I totally relate to every bit of what you have described, especially the part about the second bedroom being a guest room before the baby came and its transformation to baby’s room after the baby came. And what about toys, toys, toys and more toys everywhere? From the kitchen cabinets to the bed to sofa to the bathroom – toys seems to have invaded every available space at my place. Decluttering? I have done that a zillion times and given up! Let the toys stay and the baby finger stains on the wall too! Post the post painting pics, would love to see.
Sowparnika, sometimes I feel de-cluttering is only a myth. And the stages of early parenting is such that we can neither throw it out, nor stop ourselves from buying new stuff 🙂 If we do too much, we go mad so let’s just chill. As long as some basic rules follow karte hain, bacche to bacche hote hain. at my place, hubby has to take care of ME and my daughter 🙂 and yes, I will post the post painting pics. thanks for showing interest. it feels good.
You have a beautiful home, Poornima. Loved the way you have decorated and given a personal touch to each room. We had got 2 rooms done by Asian Paints wall fashion, many years ago and they still look the same! You must go for it!
All the best for the contest 🙂
Thanks Shilpa. It is really a good brand in paints and I especially loved the fact that we do not have to look for a painter 🙂 As I said, they need to live up to our expectations though! 🙂
You think your house is cluttered, you should see mine! Every wall has doodles. And when I say every wall, I mean EVERY SURFACE! Her study table, my wardrobe, her wardrobe, even the side panels of the beds. Now we have decided that when we re-paint, we are going to paint one section of the wall in a deep brown or purple washable color, and tell the kids to use chalk. BTW your house is beautiful and very neatly done up. I love the photo frames as well 🙂
Thanks Gauri. Ha ha.. repainting it is, for us. By the way there are some decals which are like a black chalkboard. and pretty shapes too. Google it. Maybe they will finally use them instead of the walls. Saee is grown up now but best luck with Sayalee 😉
Lovely post!! Your little one has literally brought color into your lives :D. Yup, kids change everything – there are two cupboards in our home that have been renamed ‘my toy cupboard’ by a certain 5 year old :).
Ha ha.. and the story remains the same in every house 🙂 Thanks for reading.
I LOVE your space and I love that tent your daughter has too 🙂 and that pic of her hers and her dolls is super adorable 🙂 Well we were staying in a 1.5 BHK with Aarya for 2 years before we decided, there was no way we could continue like this and rented this 2bhk out. Now with the 2nd one coming, I can only imagine that a 3 bhk will feel small to use LOL!
Having our own home is a HUGE dream, which by the Grace of almighty will happen someday… and I hope that someday, is soon lol! I love your selections, and I am sure your Hubs is going to give you a nod too 🙂
Thank you so much Veena. She just “occupies” the whole space 🙂 Well, good luck to you with the 2nd one coming. I am sure Aarya is super excited. And yes, best wishes that you have a home of your own and very soon.
You have a beautiful home Poornima. 🙂 And the post is the story of every parent with a young child. The amount of toys, clothes and other stuff just keeps increasing despite discarding and donating regularly. 🙂
You bet Priya. And thanks for appreciating the home 🙂 Hope hubby agrees to the repainting 😉
