Hi,
The school normally just mentions the project idea and the kids have to perform a show and tell on one of these. We chose Seasons.
The school circular mentioned the following:
To identify the three main seasons in India.
To recognize and experience the climate change in the season. (temperature, the sky(clear or cloudy) and the wind).
To know the types of clothing worn.
To know the names of the seasons.
To know the effect of the seasons on us.
Materials we used:
Puffy stickers
Some old things we collected from old greeting cards or boxes, the wool with the toothpick, the packing of the iphone, Cotton, black pepper.
Glue, sketch pens and scissors.
Yes, we used google for images and we used our last printer ink for printing these 🙂
Idea
Make a single page for each season. Use images with small sentences such that the child will be able to just see the image and speak a little about it.
Give it a 3D effect by using puffy stickers suitable to the season images and also by adding a small amount of craft to each page.
Be happy if your three-year old even just points to the image, identifies and relates it to it’s season 🙂
Our finished pages
Monsoon
Craft added here: Add green grass by just stripping a simple green sheet. The packing of the iphone is cut into two clouds and colored with black felt pen. Puffy stickers for rainbow and flowers.
Summer
Craft added here: Ice cream stick, small ice cream cones with card paper and pompom, small ice candies with foam, puffy stickers for the cap, butterfly, clouds and sun.
Winter
Craft used here: Star stickers, puffy stickers for the moon, Added some wool with a toothpick depicting the needles, a snowman made of cotton or similar material and a thread. Black pepper for the snowman’s eyes and a small shiny paper for the nose.
We practiced a few times with the three sheets to point and say what the images meant. You need to personalize it for your own kid.
Some examples:
For the monsoon we said, if two black clouds fight with each other, we get rain.
I love muddy puddles just like Peppa pig.
My dad loves soup in winter.
It’s my happy birthday in winter and then Santa Claus comes.
I love ice cream.
Mom bought me a new jacket this winter.
I really do not know how well Aruja performed in school show and tell but, from the feedback we got, the teacher seems satisfied and our sheets are still kept in school 🙂
If you ask me, at age three, I am even happy if she just stands in front of the class and speaks something related to the subject. If you need to know anything further, feel free to get in touch.
Hope this has given you some ideas for your “show and tell”. Does your school have “show and tell”? Do share with us your special “show and tell” activities.
I am always glad to get some more ideas.
Many thanks,
Poornima

My kids favorite show and tell is when she brought in her plant from India called the TickleMe Plant.
She showed how the plants leaves close when she tickled it. You can find kits to grow them on line, my students love them too.
That is a nice idea. Thank you Samantha.
Nice ideas but it could be related to general awareness. So that kids can know their surroundings.
Thanks for reading in and leaving your feedback Anjali.

Thank you very much

Let us know what you are looking for and we will give you some ideas.
Need your kind suggestions on show and tell healthy foods … thanks
Hi Himani,
For show and tell for healthy foods you can use some of the below ideas. Hope they help you:
1) artificial veggies and fruits and add some “non-healthy” food in small packets (sealed packets only). Then as a show and tell activity let the child sort through these to differentiate between healthy and non-healthy food.
2) Make a healthy snack ( a veggie sandwich ) right in front of the class to share with his / her friends.
3) Make a chart of healthy and non-healthy foods. Give very few lines to the child – Eg. “Fruits are very healthy. My favorite fruits are oranges.”
Let me know how it goes,
Poornima
my doughter is in Sr kg she had a show and tell compition on kitchen pan or pot or a wooden spoon on 30th of September 2015 pls let me know the idea what to teach her.
Hi Jyoti, Welcome to A Spoonfull of ideas. If she has a show and tell, use play utensils to show how to make a dish using pot or pan. Maybe like an omelette? Use white felt cut out with a golden yellow ball (Cut table tennis ball in half) to depict the omelette and let her flip it using a wooden spatula?
Have fun, Poornima

Hi Jyoti, I am sorry. I read your comment on the 20th October. Please feel free to email me at aspoonfullofideas@gmail.com for any further such queries. 🙂 Thanks. Hope your daughter did well in her show and tell. – Poornima
Thanks Poornima for the reply,, because of dengue the school was closer for last week henceforth the competition is reschedule for 28 October,, still need your help,,
Thanks,
Jyoti Kharb
Hi, I would recommend – use her toys or dolls and let her tell a simple story from her favorite book. Use the dolls or toys as props to tell the story.
As she is six years old, she would be able to do this very nicely. Hope this helps. Do let me know how it goes. 🙂
Hi Poornima,,,
Khushi, my daughter had her competition and she took her elephant soft toy as the object. Initially she told about toy as her friend and then few lines on elephant,. Today she brought her certificate with first position in the class. I’m so happy,,
🙂 🙂
Thanks again,
Jyoti Kharb
Dear Jyoti,
That is wonderful. I think Khushi is one lucky girl.
A big thanks for sharing this with me. I really appreciate it.
Lots of love, Poornima
Can u share any idea for Show n Tell on “Myself” with prop.
Hi Cheenu, Maybe try this? Make a 4 page booklet with A4 sized card papers. Write one or two sentences with big pictures. Each page to talk simple things about “Me”. Easy topics which the child can talk about. His family, His favorite toys, His favorite activity, his favorite book? Sounds good?
Thank you so much poornima. Its very
helpful for me.
Happy to have you here and thank you for leaving a lovely comment for me. 🙂
Hi, could you please help my son prepare on show and tell activity on “Winters”? He is 5year old and in UKG now….look forward to your prompt help please….thanks, Shikkha
I replied to your email Shikha. 🙂
Hii Poornima,My child is 5 years old.His topic is Earth in show n tell.plz give me the idea what to show ñ tell Abt this.
Hi Sania, I believe your son’s name is ayaan? 🙂 Well, Some ideas could be: 1) A pic of the solar system to show planet earth as a part of it? (2) You could ask him to draw earth with brown and blue and green and maybe he tells what these colors represent? (3) Lastly you could give him a slogan on why he loves earth? Ask him. He will feel most comfortable to repeat his own answers. I am sure he has ideas of his own too. Good luck and have fun.
Poornima, my daughter is 5 years old. Her topic is myself in show and tell. Please give some ideas to prepare her for the topic.
Hi Preeti, Just ask this question to your daughter. Whatever cmes naturally to her, just include that with pictures.
For example: My family consists of, I stay in Mumbai, I love my bunk bed, My favorite book is, My favorite toy is, I love to dance or read or sing, The best thing in the world for me is my mom or my pet… Blue is my favorite color. I love the story of the lion and the mouse. In it they become friends. I can eat chocolate anytime of the day, I love to watch Ben and Holly. 🙂 And so on…
Good luck

Can u please help me my daughter has this show and tell compitetion on 22 aug on any object plz help i hv not faced anything like this before .
Hi,
How old is your daughter? I am sorry for reverting late.
Please do not worry for any show and tell henceforth.
You can simply use ideas from many topics on my blog.
They are all very simple.
Tips: Use simple sentences. The child should be able to say those sentences simply by looking at the image or picture but, we should write down the exact sentence for teacher to prompt.
All the best. Thank you for writing in.
Regards,
Poornima
