We decided this Rakshabandhan to make our own rakhis and to involve a one year old in any activity definitely means — it better be simple and it better be quick ( before the concentration is lost).
So, the preparation was ,
Get some ready made decorations ( flowers, shiny circles etc).
Cut small card paper rectangles to mount the bands so that they will look good while gifting.
And two way tape.
Cut the satin ribbons to the right length.
Show your child the various colorful accessories and preparation and she was much interested in helping mamma. So all, we did was stick the flower onto the satin band with a two way tape. Then we tied it to our rectangle card paper which had flower punches on both ends. The result was as below. It looked colorful, it was in-expensive, made with love and a great few minutes activity with my daughter.
For older kids, you can make the decoration more “difficult” and more “creative”.

it was a very nice rakhi and a bit more different then others 🙂
Thank you Varun.
Loved these. We made similar ones last year with Teddy punch and bindis.
Thanks Prajakta. This year, we made such simple ones again. Will post pics soon.
