Hi,
At the age of 3+, we find many common toys already in our homes.
Some of the common toys and games are as follows.
Dolls, Cars, Play Doh or clay, Board games like Snakes and ladders, kitchen sets, Lego blocks, soft toys, Musical instruments like Casio or drums, action figures and play sets of super heroes and of course a doctor set.
As a mom, I keep scouring the shops to find new games and toys which will interest my active three-year old.
Hence, I thought this post would be helpful to many moms too. Some of the below recommended games we already put to use regularly and the others we have experienced with our friends.
Our list of recommendations:
Junior Tangrams
This game has a set of foam pieces. There are three sets of challenging levels of design. The child has to use the pieces to complete the design. Start with the simple levels and I could see my child’s happiness as she completed these designs. This game teaches them recognizing shapes and to analyze the design to slot the shapes into the right place. It’s not too easy to be boring and nor too difficult to be tiresome. Just perfect.
Lace with grace
This game has a set of cards of different animals, each with a border of holes. The task for the child is to stitch through the holes to make a border. It took a while for my daughter to get the hang of it. As this has many sets of cards, I introduced this game to her friends too and all of us were lacing through the holes using the satin shoelaces. This game definitely improves eye-hand coordination and in my opinion patience too.
Manic Martians
This game is from ELC. Aruja and her friends loved it. The set consists of many cute martians in two colors and with two hammers. Two people can play this. So, you start the game and the aliens begin to move up and down. You have to bang your hammer on the aliens such that they get stuck in the hole in the hammer and pull them out. The person who gets all their aliens out first is the winner. It is a very enjoyable game and quality of ELC products is superb. The hammer, the alien shapes are all designed for safety and delight children. We should have some games just for fun. Right?
The negative feedback for this game is that it is battery operated and makes noise.
Aksharit
Most of the kids in senior kindergarten must have been taught the Hindi alphabets. What better way to learn than to play a crossword game suitable for their age! It is a word game for Indian languages developed and marketed by MadRat Games Pvt. Ltd. It is the first board game based on the Hindi language. This game was recommended by my dear friend who has a four-year old son. I have not tried this as yet for my daughter as this would be suitable for her next year.
Junior Gatory
This is a English crossword game suitable for this age group. Once again a fun way to learn some words. It also has a story book. I am planning to try this game next with my daughter especially as this one too comes highly recommended by a mother of a four-year old.
Hide N Seek
Fantastic game. We played this game at our friend’s house and I think it was very challenging. I loved playing it too. See in the picture arrows pointing to (1), (2) and (3).
There is a set of conditions you are given (1). You have to arrange the four slides (2) on the board (3) in such a way that these conditions are met. This game improves logic and analyzing skills. I think I got my own skills sharpened on playing it. So, if kids don’t enjoy this at the first go, moms you can still have some fun.
Leapfrog, My Leaptop
The quality of this product is just superb and very easy for the kids to handle. With sturdy construction and a handy carry handle, it’s just right. It has alphabet recognition, music, phonics and a lot more to offer than we managed to explore. You can find more information at Leapfrog. The downside is it’s cost. A quality product, it’s worth it if you make proper use of it.
MindWare Block Buddies
This game is similar to Tangrams. However, whereas Tangram was using flat foam and was in 2D, these wooden blocks help you make a 3D design structure. Once again a mind challenging game and very enjoyable too. The quality and colors of these blocks are also quite kid friendly.
We hope that you have found some possibilities for your next games purchase. If you have any recommendations for us, please do let us know. You would be helping me in my search for those perfect games and toys.
Before we say goodbye, if you have any toddlers in your family and friends, please see our post on Nine Recommended toys for Toddlers. Share with their moms if possible.
Have a lovely day,
Poornima
Tangrams, blocks, hide and seek, gatory – all are our favorites too! And I would recommend Hungry Hippos… i is so crazy…noisy but so awesome FUN!
Yes, I had also seen Hungry Hippos and liked it. At that time I bought the Manic martians game. 🙂 Both make noise but are fun. 🙂 Afterall kids like to bang and make noise. 🙂
