Hi There,
I am doing a review after a long time. Some of our earlier book reviews were:
1) Watch Out! by Shamim Padamsee
2) Elmer and Grandpa Eldo by David McKee
5) General books for a three-year old.
Today, I would like to introduce books by Joy Cowley known as the well-being series. I liked the term itself, “well-being” series.
They have three categories in this series: Physical well-being, Emotional well-being and social well-being. There are eight books in each category.
All books individually deal with one important topic and it becomes easy for the to explain the lesson or the values behind each story.
The books we own are:
Social well-being series
Our town:
What is your town or neighborhood like? How would you like your town to be? Are you proud of your neighborhood? Do you help keep your town clean, safe and healthy? These are some of the questions you can ask your child as you read this book.
Tornado Tony:
The story talks about Tony who keeps his room messy till one day. Read it to find out what happens.
You could ask the following questions to your child: Do you keep your room tidy? Would your room look bigger and better if you kept it clean and tidy?
Looking after Suzie:
This books talks about looking after a pet.
Would you like to have a pet? Would you take care of the pet? These are some of the questions which you could ask your child as you read along.
Our school:
What is your school like? What all activities do you do in school? Are you a good student. Do you love your school?
Seriously, try asking these questions and enjoy the book.
Physical well-being series
My special self:
We loved this book especially because it is about a girl who believes she is special just by being herself.
It also talks about how one must not allow anyone to touch your body or make you uncomfortable.
I loved the last sentence, “I am so glad to be me.”
Emotional well-being
We haven’t any book in this series but, I sure would love to. It covers topics like Anger, Beauty and Sadness.
—————————————————————————————————————————————–
Each of these books is written in simple language and makes an impact on the child. Priced at only Fifty Rupees per book, this is really a nice series to own.
I do think, all children’s books make an impact even on us. They work their magic even in our hearts.
Don’t they, moms?
We shall be back soon with the activities we did during the summer holidays and the books we read.
Till then, bye.
